Stopped in after stopping in the mall and found this gem! The dinner combo was a hit, great amazing beefy udon served with a great portioned size sushi. The places is a tad small but the flavors will blow your mind. I'd definitely visit here again for another menu items bc the udon and sushi was delicious!

Weekend adventurer in Japantown for my birthday and stopped in for some sushi. It was a very busy lunch rush so we were not upset however after we were sat ans had our drinks and appetizer we were moved tables, which was more than a little annoying. However, the food was delicious and you cannot beat the location.

Everything is fresh and tasty. The staff is attentive and friendly. Service is prompt and everything we have ordered we always enjoy. The 3 item bento combo is $19 and some change, can't beat the amount of food for the price.

Cute restaurant with welcoming staff. Service was prompt and tentative. Food was okay, restaurant was packed due to festival on Post Street. Miso soup and Udon soup was the best dish.

Items ordered: hot green tea, bento set (tuna sashimi and zaru soba), miso soup My friends chose this place when we were out and about in Japantown. One of them called it a "bog-standard Japanese restaurant", which I would say is pretty accurate. It has the look of a place that has been around here forever. There is nothing out of the ordinary on the menu here. The banners outside advertise a special price for a two-item bento meal (although I think they need to update the prices). I selected tuna sashimi and zaru soba for my bento items. To be honest, I didn't really know what zaru soba was when I ordered it, but plain soba sounded boring and dipping sauce is always fun. Turns out it's a cold noodle dish that is dipped in a sweet and savory sauce (it's more like a watery broth). It's apparently popular in Japan in the summertime. It tasted good, but I had to leave the noodles in the broth bowl for a while to notice any difference. think it might work better as some kind of ramen dish with a hot broth. Since it was a chilly day and I hadn't actually ordered any hot food, I also got a miso soup to warm up. It's not the coolest or most glamorous place in Japantown, but the food options are solid and you will be taken care of here.

I was in a bit of a rush and came here to get takeout. They got the miso soup for me right away so I could eat it there while I waited for the rest of the food, at my request. The miso broth was good but maybe a bit salty for my taste. Then the rest of the bento actually came more quickly than I expected, maybe 5 minutes tops. So I was pleasantly surprised and actually got to eat the whole thing in the restaurant! The teriyaki chicken was really good, had a nice char on it. Everything else was pretty standard, solid. Rating high in large part because of the accommodating and very quick service!

You know, this place wasn't half bad! But here's my disclaimer: it was late on a Friday night and they were closing in an hour, which means the kitchen was closing in 30min. I (and the other diners) had to act fast, and the wait staff made sure we knew it. I was also on a little bit of a cleanse situation, so all I wanted was sashimi. And I got sashimi! Huge slices, pretty tasty, and it was everything I wanted and needed for my quick evening snack. I think I was there a whole 30min, so just be careful what you're up against when you stroll in before they close. Prices were a little steep for the sashimi I got, but it was worth it because the slices were pretty large.

It saddens me to see low ratings, especially when the food itself is really good. Personally, I think Sanppo deserves a much better rating than the current 3-star average. I went for dinner on a weekday, and while it wasn't crowded, there were other guests seated at the establishment. We were greeted and quickly seated at a corner table. It was my first time here; however, I went with a friend who frequents the place, and she recommended I get the Korean chirashi bowl, which is on the pricier side but definitely worth it. I was also craving Tonkatsu, so we shared the items. I really enjoyed the chirashi bowl -- not only was the portion large, but they did not skimp on the amount of fresh fish either. Each bite was packed with a fresh chunk of fish. I haven't seen many other establishments offer this as a menu item, so that was a plus too. As for the tonkatsu, I personally liked the way they cook it -- thin pieces of meat, which are lightly battered -- and would order it again. I wish the salad was a little fresher, but overall, it made a nice meal. Overall, I think the price made sense for the large portions. My only advice to the establishment is to ensure there are fewer gnats. We were seated in the corner, and there were two gnats hovering over our food for a while. Otherwise, the food itself was great!
